Who We Are

Custom Book Publishing Specialists

The birth of Bookhouse was really more of an evolution than a “here we are” entrance into the book world. Its genesis was in 1989 when founder and editor Rob Levin was asked by the owner of an insurance company to write their corporate history. No one ever claimed that Rob’s young company grew quickly—it was a year before he landed his next client. But grew it did, solely on referrals for its first fifteen years and before long, Rob began hiring other writers. Within four years, he moved his company out of his Victorian home in downtown Atlanta (to his wife’s relief) and into a sublet office. The company moved two more times before finally purchasing a 4,000-square-foot tobacco warehouse on the edge of town. The firm gutted the building, installed a mezzanine (where our marketing office is) to take advantage of the twenty-two-foot trussed ceiling, thus providing plenty of room on the ground floor for editorial, design, conference space, kitchen, water bowls for the dogs, and other items. It has been our home for ten years.

As the company grew, it also branched into other types of books. Recent publications include a biography, illustrated children’s books (one of which was featured on the Today show), two highly acclaimed medical atlases translated into four languages each, and picture books commissioned by cities across the country.

But our mainstay continues to be commemorative books, company histories, and anniversary books.

Despite having a marvelous diner next door, our conference table is cleared for a daily communal lunch, where we are often joined by anybody from photographers and writers to printing reps and delivery guys.

Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom (Vermont)

Waitsfield and Champlain Valley Telecom began in 1904 as a family-owned phone company in a rural corner of Vermont. By the early 2000’s, it had grown into a telecommunications force to be reckoned with in New England. It did so by offering the latest in technology, the best in customer service, and an impressive array of products. The book includes a foreword by U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy.
